A Kid's Art Journal

video
My first attempt at uploading a video. Sorry about the fact that it's so wobbly; I filmed it using my iPhone!

This is just a quick flip through one of the art journals I'm making for our nieces & nephews for Christmas this year. The "guts" of the journals will be pretty much the same - I love to include a variety of papers. I'll end up just posting pictures of the covers of the rest of them. I used a recycled cereal box, duct tape, card stock, paint, and some original artwork to make the cover.

Art/Planner Page - Embrace...

I like to put inspirational little art pages into my altered planner. This one sits in the very front, so it is the first thing I see when I open it up. I opening t up about a thousand times each day, which is a good thing. Because I need this reminder about a thousand times each day!

This was my first foray into photocopy transfers, and oh-my-goodness-it's-amazingly-fun!!! I've done about a thousand more since this page.

More Christmas Recap

Before I had the idea of having the kids paint masterpieces for mug rugs as gifts, I made a set for my grandparents. This was my first-ever original design (except for the state flag, of course... I obviously did not design that!).

Guess what state my grandparents are proud to live in!

Before I made those, I made a place mat for my Nani? She needed one to put her spiral-bound calendar so that it won't scratch up her coffee table.
The bird came from "Learn Doodle Stitching" by Aimee Ray; the tree is my own design.

Before I made that, I made a small piece of wall art for a special baby girl (my niece) who is due to arrive later this month. It was my first piece, and I wish I had waited until my skills were better. But I liked the idea behind it.

Christmas Gifts

Each year I come up with a new gift that my kids and I can make for their grandparents. Christmas, 2013 was the year of mug rugs. The kids painted mini masterpieces and I added a little embroidery (based on their ideas). Then I stitched everything together into a rug for mugs.

Confession time: I still have two sitting on my sewing machine, waiting to be finished! They get shipped out of state, and the recipients actually prefer to exchange Christmas gifts in the spring/ summer so that they don't get lost in all the hustle & bustle from far away.
Anyway, here are the ones we got done in time...

(Don't freak because my 11 year old drew a gun - my dad is an avid marksman, hunter, fisherman, etc. We all are. It's part of our family's history & culture.)

Welcome!!!

Welcome! Please come in!

Although this blog - as with all blogs - will always be a work in progress, it's really a mess right now. I've been out of the blogging scene for a while, busy with life & discovering new creative outlets. This is my space for humbly sharing my art, knits, needlecrafts, and whatever else I get myself into (creatively speaking).

Unlike my other blogs, I'm not planning a lot of words for this one. Mostly I think it will be just images and brief descriptions of the thought behind the art. I do a lot of knitting & needlework as gifts for people I love, and I'll share that here as well.

I'm learning that I need to create something every day. I'm also learning that part of the creative process is sharing it.  I'm very new at mixed media, and have approached it with child-like wonder. I do not think my stuff is anything special. It's just my thoughts, feelings, expressions, and adventures all smushed together into something that is [hopefully - but not always] pretty. My work is mostly based on things that inspire me. Much of it includes Bible verses, quotes from others, and sometimes my own thoughts. Nearly all of it includes some little snippet of my faith. I hope that in humbly sharing these creations, I can help to inspire you.

Much love!
Keowdie
